Three Oklahoma teenagers were killed when they broke into a house and were met by a homeowner with an AR-15. Now the grandfather of one of the teenagers is speaking out about his grandson’s death.

According to KTUL-TV, Leroy Schumacher, grandfather of 17-year-old Jacob Redfearn, believes the death of Redfearn was unjustified because the homeowner’s AR-15 gave him an unfair advantage over the three burglars.

Speaking to KTUL, Schumacher acknowledged that breaking into a house was “stupid,” but death was not the appropriate consequence.

“What these three boys did was stupid,” Schumacher said. “They knew they could be punished for it but they did not deserve to die.”

“Brass knuckles against an AR-15? C’mon. Who was afraid for their life?” Schumacher said.

The homeowner who pulled the trigger has not been charged with any crimes because police say he acted in self-defense. But Schumacher reinterated his belief that the consequences literally did not fit the crime.

“There’s got to be a limit to that law, I mean he shot all three of them — there was no need for that,” he told KTUL.

In addition to Redfearn, 19-year old Maxwell Cook and 16-year old Jake Woodruff were also shot and killed in the home invasion. Getaway driver, 21-year-old Elizabeth Rodriguez, was not injured but later arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder, one count of first-degree burglary and one count of second-degree burglary.

Police also say Rodriguez admitted to planning the burglary.

More from CNN:

Rodriguez went to police in Broken Arrow, a Tulsa suburb, and told them she was involved. Oklahoma state law says that first-degree murder occurs if “any other person takes the life of a human being during … first degree burglary.” Another condition is if a person causes the death of another person with “malice aforethought.”

In the end, Schumacher said he supports the Second Amendment right to bear arms but doesn’t agree with killing home invaders.

“These boys’ families are going to suffer with this the rest of their lives, we have to live with this the rest of our lives,” he said. “You can’t change history, but you can damn sure learn from it, and maybe some kids will learn from this.”

  1. Rule number one:
There is no such thing as a fair fight.
    Rule number two:
Never leave your enemy alive to come back and kill you later.

    1. Legally regardless of jurisdiction or country, the law tends to not be in favour of executions as implied. You attack back until they’re unable to fight back (wounded or dead) or unable to be a threat in some form (i.e they’re running away)

      1. I’m trying to interpret what you just said. This was not an execution. The homeowner defended himself. He did not attack. He exercised self defense. The law in many states presumes a homeowner to be in mortal fear for their life when their home is invaded by burglars, home invasion robbers, and the like. Even CA has such a law on the books. It’s informally referred to as the Homeowner’s Bill of Rights.

    2. From my perspective, anyone coming in to my house uninvited at night failed to learn a valuable life lesson, people have a reason to believe that their life is in danger and can or should respond with deadly force. Wounding only invites a civil lawsuit adding insult to injury. Consider this immediate justice applied properly.

  2. The home owner had no idea what the intentions were from the three strangers entering the house illegally. He is justified in defending himself. I’m sorry for these stupid boys and their families, but illegal actions have consequences. Life isn’t fair.

    1. Exactly – “brass knuckles against an AR”, hell yeah – they can beat that guy to death with knucks if he wasn’t able to defend himself – disproportional force against inherently violent invaders is the only reasonable thing

  3. Just a note of common sense. If your grandson hadn’t broken into someone’s home, there would be no need for fair or unfair! Secondly… it’s HIS home, he has every right to protect it & his family from intruders!!! I don’t care if he used a freakin cannon!!

  4. Ahhh Life isn’t fair for the rotten kids he raise. An AR 15 IS A SINGLE SHOT RIFLE Much like a 22. You must pull the trigger once per shot. Assault rifles are AUTOMATIC. Now this svlep is mad his kid brought a knife to a gun fight.

  5. I’d have to say that ganging up into a pack of thieves and looking to start a 3 on 1 was looking for an unfair fight. I side with the home owner. Stupid games stupid prizes.

  6. Here are a few simple truths about this situation. They broke into a stranger’s home. They were armed. 3 versus 1 is not fair. They were old enough to know better, but chose to ignore that knowledge.
The homeowner rightfully and legally defended himself from a threat of unknown origin and severity. 3 persons are dead as a result. Too bad. Had they gone to play soccer or video games, they likely would still be alive today.

And to the grandfather, due to the obviously inadequate parenting skills of you and YOUR child (kids parent) an everyday man will have to live with the fact that he was forced to kill 3 people. Maybe if y’all had been better and more involved parents, your offspring wouldn’t have become criminals. Sorry, no sympathy from gramps.

  7. Blaming the victim is a joke. Grandpa you raised a shit bird kid that bred another shit bird who earned the ultimate body piercing. Congrats.

  8. Breaking into someone’s home doesn’t give you the expectation or the right to a “fair fight”. 3 people breaking into someone’s home isn’t an agreed to form of Mutual Combat. The Grandfather believing something like this is the reason his grandson is dead. He taught him wrong due to his own wrong beliefs.

    1. Seems they like b to use the excuse “Its someone else’s fault” it’s a sad end for his grandson but it is justified. They put themselves into that situation and reaped the consequences.

  9. These were Habitual criminals who have been breaking into homes for a while it seems. It was only a matter of time before they confronted a home owner and killed them to cover up their own crime or the home owner killed them. One or the other. If you choose that life expect it, the more of these outcomes we see maybe we will see less people choose to live a lawless life.

  10. The grandfather obviously is one of the many reasons his grandson thought it was ok to commit a b&e. Those kids broke into that house thinking themed had an unfair advantage with 3 on 1. That homeowner didn’t shake hands and agree to mutual combat with rules. He was forced to unexpectedly defend his against unknown threats. The man had every right to defend himself with the best tool for the job, which was an ar15. If you believe in fair fights you’ve already lost the battle.

  11. How many residents are killed every year during home invasions? I can tell you it a lot more than the criminals doing the killing. “Oh hey guys, what’s going on? Just so it’s fair, you’re only going to rob me right? You’re already in side, might as well have this TV”.

  12. Stupid boomers should STFU. They ruined this county – they couldn’t teach Gen X their values, and Gen X couldn’t help but have dumbass kids with no morality. You lost your grandson because you let the country rot while you consumed endless indulgences, and now you want to take our only recourse for self self defence.

We should have never locked down. COVID-19 was a gift from the Lord, the Boomer Remover, and we ruined it.

And, btw, your grandson deserved to die. He was criminal scum.

  13. Fair??? Why you would want to fight fair? Your life is on the line, fight to win. Grandfather is as stupid as his progeny.

  14. While it’s a damn shame and a waste of life, it’s difficult for me to have a whole lot of sympathy for the deceased or agree with any of the grandfathers argument. Three intruders against an individual is not fair. What if those kids were armed with any kind of hand weapons (knives, blackjacks, brass knuckles or whatever) and the homeowner was unarmed, would the fight have been fair then? Would the grandfather been happier if those kids got away with robbing the place and seriously injured the homeowner (or worse)?
If placed in a situation like that and if out numbered 3 to 1, I would use the maximum amount of violence I had at my disposal, to end the conflict as quickly and with least injury to myself, as possible.

  15. Well with logic and condoning the actions of his grandson it is no wonder the kid was a burglar. I guess is unfair to feel and be safe in your own hone from people burglarizing it where home or not. I guess unfair to expect people to raise their children to be respectful of other people and their property.

  16. Point blank… I do not feel sorry for these people! She admitted they’ve done it before! Now they’re gone and no one else has to worry about being attacked by them.
Oh yeah, they were armed with brass knuckles and knives… Like only there to rob the house, right?
The grandfather is a moron. Think it’s a fair fight 3 on 1? What if it was a little kid at home instead? You think those repeat offenders cared about the harm they were causing? And why were these boys living with this woman instead of their families? Yeah… Exactly! Don’t play like they’re innocent.
Great job to the homeowner. Protect yourself and your neighbors. Someone send him a box of ammo.

  17. The fact that he didn’t surrender after seeing the man wielding an AR belies his true intentions and stupidity. Using an AR is different than using a semi-auto Glock or a S&W revolver. No one firearm has a particular advantage unless you’re shooting a grizzly or something 100+ yards away.

  18. They F’d around and they found out.

I can’t imagine a more justified shooting scenario.

Gramps is dead wrong, no criminal is entitled to a fair fight, nor do criminals offer one. 3 on 1 sound fair to you? The rifle equalized the odds, and actually created favorable ones for the victim to survive that event.

Castle doctrine far predates stand your ground. Both are important to have.

    What don’t these people get?

This girl is BSing about another accomplice to try and save her ass from the death penalty. What she doesn’t know is that even though she deserves it, she won’t get it because of her sex trophy crotch goblins.

  19. Write more, thats all I have to say. Literally, it seems as though you relied on the video to make your point. You definitely know what youre talking about, why waste your intelligence on just posting videos to your site when you could be giving us something informative to read?

  20. Good day! This is my first comment here so I just wanted to give a quick shout out and say I truly enjoy reading through your posts. Can you recommend any other blogs/websites/forums that go over the same topics? Thanks for your time!

  21. It is indeed my belief that mesothelioma is usually the most dangerous cancer. It’s got unusual features. The more I actually look at it the more I am convinced it does not respond like a real solid tissues cancer. When mesothelioma is usually a rogue viral infection, therefore there is the chance for developing a vaccine and offering vaccination to asbestos open people who are really at high risk connected with developing upcoming asbestos linked malignancies. Thanks for sharing your ideas on this important health issue.
